Three ontologies of cartography

In Arkeologi, Filosofi, Litteratur on desember 11, 2010 at 12:51 pm

Within the world of philosophy and social theory during the last years there had been a number of instances where reference have been made to the practice of cartography. Why is this?

  1. Thanks for the nice writing. I would like to reflect here something that I heard on one lecture (don’t really remember who was talking and when).
It’s about the landscape cartography. The lecturer was saying that it really wasn’t this birds perspective map making which came first. It was more likely something like modern underground maps, showing only some points on the way. This was at least the way that the first sailing itineraries were made. I think it’s also quite much how people think when they are moving from one place into another. Thinking of some points on the way, not so much birds perspective.
I think I also think quite much like this when I go from one place to another. First to this street corner, then past that park and when I see the neon lights, I know it’s the bar I’ve been looking for.
